Which kind of difference has the vast community of women and gender minorities made in the past two years?
GRASP invites you to a conversation between five Danish female artists: Helena Heinesen Rebensdorff (Brimheim), Heidi Withington Brink (Konvent), Mai Young Øvlisen (Meejah), Nikoline (rapper), Marianne Fruergaard (director of The Band Academy) and Anette Heick (singer and host of the event).
The Music Movement of 2019 (‘Musikbevægelsen af 2019’) started as a Facebook group in late 2019, and today it has over 2100 members.
The music movement has since become a society that has won the 'Initiative of the Year’ award at the Danish music critics’ award show Steppeulven 2021, for instance for its contribution of 97 testimonials in Danish newspaper Politiken about sexism in the music industry during the #MeToo wave in the autumn of 2020.
The panel will talk about the culture and cultural changes that the movement has helped to demand, and they will reflect on the mechanisms that have changed the way you see yourself and present yourself as a female artist in the Danish music industry. For many years, it has felt like you were your own island.
