Den Sorte Skole in conversation about REFRAKTO

Meet Simon Dokkedal and Martin Højland of the sample-based composer duo Den Sorte Skole. They will talk about their methods, approaches and inspirations for creating their performance, REFRAKTO, in Roskilde Cathedral.
18 nov 12:30 - 13:30
Roskilde Festival Højskole

What happens when the origin and context of religious expressions are dissolved? When a Gregorian choir chants with a shaman from Congo? When a Hindu poem is processed through a vocoder? How do we perceive otherness when it presents itself in different contexts? How do we bridge the organic and synthetic and create an experience of presence going back through history?

For 15 years, Den Sorte Skole has performed across the world. From large audio-visual installations to classical symphonies and late-night raves.

At GRASP, they present an inter-religious audio-visual performance and installation in Roskilde Cathedral combining music, sound, light installations and laser mapping. The title of their performance is REFRAKTO. The underlying vision is to investigate the different traces of religion and spirituality in our musical history and bring them together in an audio-visual journey crossing space and time inside the most sacred institution of our society – the church.

Moderator is radio journalist Carsten Holm.

Please notice, tickets to the concert in Roskilde Cathedral are available here. The talk can be accessed with a GRASP festival ticket.
